Possible Emerald City Dress fabric?

Cathy, who recently showed us her AWESOME Glinda's Emerald City recreation, sent us some pictures of a fabric she found at Joanns. I wasn't able to find it on the website (if anyone can, lemme know!), but it's sold in stores. Sadly, out of my price range. But those of you more monetarily fortunate seamstresses may want to take notice. =)

(And on a non-musical note, I think it would also be decent if anyone wanted to recreate Padme's yellow dress from Episode II.)

Cheap Trick... more than just a band.

So, I happened across this on eBay. Available by the yard for $16.99, it's gold organza with self embroidery.

Glinda's Emerald City Dress

"I've never been to the Emerald City!"

In summary: yellow dress, worn by the newly-renamed Glinda on her trip to see the Wizard.
This dress has three forms (kind of... ugh... I hate trying to label the minute differences between them...).


In its original, OBC form, it consists of a solid light yellow halter-neck empire-waisted top over a handkerchief (thanks Cathy!) skirt. Also, the designs are interesting. They look kind of like lace? I have no idea...

The next stage in this dress seems to be an elaboration on the first: the "empire waist" becomes a girdle not unlike Eowyn's Shield-Maiden dress and it's heavily boned. The details on the skirt are slightly more withdrawn, but they're still there.

In stage two, or Emerald City 2.0, the boning on the girdle is reminiscent of the Popular dress. There are 12 (I think) boned panels, and it zips up the back. It's pointed at the waist and where it meets the upper part, and the "underbodice" (because I'm not feeling technologically termy right now), which is probably the same fabric as the skirt, is gathered at the bust.





There are little crystals right where the strap meets the neckline... so basically, Glinda's armpits sparkle. No, I'm not kidding, look:





Instead of the darker-yellow decorative pattern being all over the skirt like in the OBC version, the details are more towards the hem.






And finally! Tada! Behind door number three, it's the what-I-thought-was-the-European-version-of-the-Emerald-City-Dress-Except-That-All-The-Australian-Pix-Have-Emerald-City-Dress-2.0-So-Mebbe-It's-Just-The-German-And-UK-Version? (or as I fondly call it, the "Bodice" version)

The bodice is all one piece, with no delusions of empire waisting or girdling. It's also rounded, with a sweetheart neckline. Designs similar to those on the skirt are all over the bodice.



It still has the zigzaggy thing the Popular dress has:

The skirt is a lot of sheer fabrics (with the yellow design) over one or two yellow opaque fabrics.
